About Rebel Modern Art: Rebel Modern Art is the artistic expression of non-conformist ideas. The non-conformist ideology is easy to understand but difficult to practice. In the words of Bruce Lee in his masterpiece ‘Tao of Jeet Kune Do’
“Man has more faith in what he imitates rather than what he originates.”
Hence many artists undergo conventional training & practice traditional methodologies of art. ‘Art is Expression’ but true expression is depiction of what lies in our innermost selves. Thoughts have to flow and transform into art on canvas, depicting the artists imaginations loud and clear. Rebel arts deal with unconventional and uninhibited expression of the artist. Rebel arts also reflect the mind of the soldier in the arena of battle, where life and death are separated by a hair breath and the mind is in the verge of attaining nirvana.

The unwritten Samurai code of conduct, known as Bushido, "The Way of the Warrior", held that the true warrior must hold courage, spirit, truth, honor and duty as important, until death and above it. The strong philosophical passion and conviction made the Samurai deadly in combat and yet gentle and compassionate.. Bushido was influenced by Confucianism, Shinto and Zen Buddhism, allowing the violent existence of the samurai to be tempered by philosophy, wisdom and serenity. Under the bushidō ideal, if a samurai failed to uphold his honor he could only regain it by performing seppuku (ritual suicide). In the world of the warrior, seppuku was a deed of bravery that was admirable in a samurai who knew he was defeated, disgraced, or mortally wounded.

Nirvana: Seema Rao

Nirvana or complete enlightenment, according to many philosophers is a myth. In Zen Satori is a temporary state of enlightenment and heightened awareness of life’s wonders. The Rao couples work in selflessly training 15,000 commandos over two decades without compensation lead to Presidential knighthood to the hubby. Dr. Seema was an equal partner in pioneering modernization, but due to lack of provision in regulations, she missed the accolade. However she reminded herself that it was about serving the soil and walked on in her chosen line of duty, with detachment and happiness. What else can be true detachment and enlightenment? In the following years she received the highest civilian honor for women - Nari Shakti Award from the President of India.

Nirvana is the earliest and most common term used to describe the goal of the Buddhist path, namely liberation. Nirvana is the highest aim of the Theravada-tradition. In the Mahayana tradition, the highest goal is Buddhahood, in which there is no abiding in Nirvana, but a Buddha re-enters the world to work for the salvation of all sentient beings.Nirvana is seen as a transcendental, "deathless" realm, in which there is no time and no "re-death." This thought may reflect pre-Buddhist influences, and has survived especially in Mahayana-Buddhism and the idea of the Buddha-nature.

Mind is thus neither the source of light, like a shining sun, nor the reflected light of something greater, like the moon, but a shimmering pool of contingent potential, capable of reflecting sun, moon, and any other object that happens to dance upon its surface. Consciousness itself is like a mirror whose only function is to reflect whatever it encounters—the content of experience is provided by other mental processes. The image of polluted water is elaborated upon in the Numerical Discourses(Anguttara Nikaya 5.193). “Suppose there is a bowl of water,” says the sutta, going on to describe the water as impinged upon in some way by an external factor that pollutes its depths or agitates its surface. Under such circumstances, “If a man with good sight were to examine his own facial reflection in it, he would neither know nor see it as it really is.” The five hindrances, obscure the natural luminosity and reflective ability of the mind.Sensory desire (kāmacchanda), Ill-will (vyāpāda; also spelled byāpāda), Sloth-and-torpor (thīna-middha), Restlessness-and-worry (uddhacca-kukkucca) and Doubt (vicikicchā). Overcoming these would help path of inner experience.

Open Mind: Seema Rao

In Zen, the mind is dissolved and made into an open and empty vessel, receiving energy and emitting energy without conditions. Likewise, Dr. Seema was always open to various possibilities life had to offer and accepted all roles without judgement- roles of a commando trainer, a wife, a martial artist, a woman empowerer and of a homemaker.

Beginning with Bodhidharma’s teachings in China, it traveled across to Japan where it became known as Zen Buddhism. The art of Zen, which has no meaning is taught by observing and learning from a master, who may confuse you by saying that Zen is both everything and nothing. Satori or Awakening was the always the final goal of Zen. Satori can be found in every moment of life, it is wrapped in all daily activities. Zen has the goal to unwrap them to see Satori. Although Zen Buddhism is a non-violent practice, many aspects influenced the lives of Samurai warriors. One of the most valuable of a samurai’s Zen tools was the ability to de-clutter his mind. Thoughts such as fear of death served only to distract, while focusing on strategy and changes in an opponent’s behavior could mean victory.

Samurai, in actuality, were noblemen, highly educated and dedicated to certain philosophies and belief codes. The Samurai were upper class nobility members, well educated. The Samurai believed that only after transcending all fear could they obtain peace of mind and yield the power to serve their masters faithfully and loyally even in the face of death. The Samurai place a strong emphasis on the notion of living in the present moment with a strong and clear mind. The Samurai had high ethical standards and could strike down anyone who offended their honor, and shamed warriors would embrace the ceremonial suicide practice known as seppuku. The noted swordsman Tsukahara Bokuden probably best summed up the philosophy of death as it related to the Samurai with the words…"the Samurai to learn, There’s only one thing, One last thing – To face death unflinchingly!"

Tao or Dao is a Chinese word signifying 'way', 'path', 'route', or sometimes more loosely, 'doctrine' or 'principle'. Within the context of traditional Chinese philosophy and religion, the Tao is the intuitive knowing of "life" that cannot be grasped full-heartedly as just a concept but is known nonetheless through actual living experience of one's everyday being. Laozi in the Tao Te Ching explains that the Tao is not a 'name' for a 'thing' but the underlying natural order of the Universe whose ultimate essence is difficult to circumscribe due to it being non conceptual yet evident' in one's being of aliveness. The Tao is "eternally nameless” (Tao Te Ching-32. Laozi) and to be distinguished from the countless 'named' things which are considered to be its manifestations, the reality of life before its descriptions of it. The Tao causes the people to be fully in accord with the ruler — Sun Tzu, Art of War
